Infection Control, RN, works closely with the Director of Nursing and across the clinical organization to ensure that residents are evaluated, monitored and treated to prevent or care for skin breakdown and pressure injuries, surgical wounds, skin tears, venous and arterial ulcers that may be present upon admission or during the course of care. This position also develops, coordinates and implements the facility’s infection control efforts, along with providing assistance during the admission process or to nurses as needed.

  •  Minimum 2 years’ experience in general nursing practice with experience in a long term or acute care setting and infection control prefered.

  • Degree from an accredited school of nursing or college.
  • Current NYS license and registration as an RN in good standing required.
  • Strong patient assessment and clinical skills.

  • Current knowledge of best practice nursing care and the care planning process.

  • Ability and knowledge to respond in emergency situations.

  • Ability to analyze problems, plan resolution strategies, implement solutions and evaluate outcomes.

  • Strong presentation skills or teaching experience.
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills including the ability to communicate clearly and effectively with clients, residents, and families from diverse backgrounds who may have physical, sensory and mental impairments.

An equivalent combination of education and experience which provides proficiency in the areas of responsibility listed above may be substituted for the above education and experience requirements.


  • Monitors for infections daily and implements and restricts if outbreak is identified.

  • Consults on new admissions regarding the precautions recommended for placement of residents. Monitors and manages duration of precautions.

  • Ensures site is in compliance with flu vaccine, pneumonia program for staff and residents. Reports flu statistics on the HPN, NORA and HERDS.

  • Ensures adherence with infection control measures and procedures in accordance with current standards of practice; skilled in continuous monitoring and identification of both community and hospital acquired infections.

  • Develops and revises policies and procedures relating to exposure of infectious diseases and the prevention of cross-contamination; recommends and evaluates procedures relating to infection control within Loretto Health and Rehabilitation. Communicates procedures to staff.

  • Supports and contributes to quality assurance activities via data collection and analysis as well as monitoring the effectiveness of infection control policies and procedures as a component of the QA process, including antibiotic stewardship.


  • Keeps all departments informed of new or emerging diseases and current outbreaks.
