Loretto Hosts Acti-v8 Your Brain Initiative in Support of The Longest Day

Jun 20 2019

On Friday, June 21, Loretto will host Lisa Sonneborn of Clarity Clinical Research at The Nottingham to educate staff, residents and their families on brain health through the Acti-v8 Your Brain initiative. June 21 is “The Longest Day” and June is National Alzheimer's and Brain Awareness Month.

“Aging causes changes in all parts of the body, including the brain,” said Sonneborn, research specialist. “Research suggests there are things you can do as you get older to keep your brain as healthy as possible so you can stay independent for as long as possible.”

WHEN: Friday June 21 at 2 PM

WHERE: The Nottingham, 1301 Nottingham Rd, Jamesville, NY 13078

The Acti-v8 Your Brain initiative focuses on eight areas of brain health, including:

In addition to brain health, recent research shows that treating hearing loss can help delay memory loss.

“While hearing loss does not directly cause dementia or Alzheimer’s, new research does suggest that impaired hearing can increase the risk for certain dementias and impact certain parts of brain function,” said Sonneborn.

In an effort to bring the latest research and preventative initiatives to the community, Loretto will team up with Sonneborn and Clarity Clinical Research to offer no-cost audiologist and memory testing to the public in the near future.
